Students in Brown County Schools put on eclipse glasses and stepped outside towards the end of the school day Aug. 21 to watch the rare astronomical event.

Brown County Intermediate School fifth- and sixth-grade students gathered on the school’s playground with teachers and staff to watch the eclipse.

“This is science coming to us,” Principal Trent Austin said to the students.

Austin told the students that the eclipse was an opportunity to think about “how vast the universe is.”

Brown County students who had permission slips signed were allowed to gather outside to look up at the eclipse using the eclipse glasses.

The next solar eclipse Indiana will see will be in 2024.
