Darrell E. Kirby, 67, Nineveh, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016 at Kindred Healthcare Facility in Greenwood while holding his wife’s hand.

He was born Tuesday, July 6, 1948, to the late James E. and Helen (West) Kirby in Sacramento, California.

Darrell graduated from Lawrence Central High School in Lawrence and went on to serve his country as a ranger with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam. Darrell left Vietnam as a 100-percent service-connected disabled veteran. After the war, he obtained his electronics degree from ITT in Indianapolis. Darrell then went on to work at RCA in Indianapolis as an engineer and teacher. He also owned his own electronic repair shops in Nashville and Greenwood.

Darrell had many hobbies which included backpacking, mountain climbing, scuba diving, spelunking which he enjoyed teaching others about, motocross racing, canoeing, RVing, physics and being a private pilot. He loved people, animals and the environment.

He is survived by his wife, Madonna J. (Pedro) Kirby; brothers, Robert Kirby of Carmel and Richard Kirby of Tampa, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.

No services are planned at this time.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Southern Indiana Cremation Society LLC in Martinsville.
