Enroll your preschooler now at Head Start

Head Start is seeking children to enroll in its preschool program.

Children ages 3 to 5 can sign up now for the 2016-2017 school year. Students must be 3 years old by Aug. 1.

Head Start is free for income-eligible families. Bus transportation may be available in some areas.

Become a certified nursing assistant

Beginning Tuesday, June 7, the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St., will host a certified nursing assistant class. Sessions last nine weeks with a test to follow.

Sign language classes planned at CRC

American Sign Language classes will be offered at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St., in late spring. The classes, from 6 to 8 p.m., last eight weeks.

Scholarships available to law enforcement majors

The Indiana Sheriffs’ Association will award about 40 $500 college scholarships to high school seniors or college students pursuing a degree in criminal justice studies.

To qualify, an applicant must be an Indiana resident; a current member of the association or a dependent child/grandchild of a current member of the association; attend an Indiana college or university; major in a law enforcement field; and enroll as a full-time student (12 hours).

Applications are available from high school counselors; the local sheriff’s office; by writing to the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association, 147 E. Maryland St., Indianapolis, IN 46204-3608; or at indianasheriffs.org.

Applications are due to the association by Friday, April 1.

All-day solar energy classes offered

Solar classes will be conducted in May at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St.

Basic Photovoltaics (PV 101), the prerequisite to the site assessor class, will be taught all day Friday, May 20.

The PV Solar Site Assessor class (PV 201) will be taught all day Saturday and Sunday, May 21 and 22.

Computer support training offered at CRC

A+ Computer Support Specialist class (A+ certification) will be taught this spring at the Brown County Career Resource Center. Call 812-988-5880 for more information or to register.

High school equivalency class time set

Classes focused on the high school equivalency assessment exam — formerly called GED classes — are taught year-round from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St.

Students who cannot attend class at the scheduled times can arrange instruction by appointment or by distance learning.

People enrolled in adult education may be eligible for free job training through Work One.

Learn to sign with your baby or toddler

Free sign language classes for babies or toddlers and their parents take place at 2 p.m. Thursdays at the Brown County Public Library, lower level.

Small-business counseling available

The Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St., offers individual small-business counseling sessions through the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

There is no charge for these sessions, which meet in the morning on the first Thursday of every month. An appointment is required.
