Looking Back: Follow area migration trails during Family Heritage Day

0

Brown County Family Heritage Day is coming soon. This year it will be on Saturday, April 23 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brown County History Center in downtown Nashville, 90 E. Gould St. All interested family historians are invited, regardless of where your ancestors came from or went to.

The theme for this year is “Migration Trails.” There will be maps of old trails in the eastern United States for you to examine, so you might learn more about how your family traveled across the country.

Please come and enjoy a free open house focused on migration. Door prizes will be awarded at noon and each hour, 1 to 4 p.m. There will be exhibits, posters, lots of maps, handouts, books and digital genealogical files for sale and a research table. Each attendee will receive a free data file containing migration information, so it is suggested that they bring a USB drive. Alternatively, the file can be emailed.

Several exhibits are planned, including: Belmont County, Ohio information; Brown County, Indiana information; the Indiana Genealogical Society; a Canadian family; a trip to Germany; Brown County veterans; Monroe County History Center; and Brown County cemetery preservation.

There will also be displays for several families with Brown County roots. All family historians are invited to bring their family information and display it. If you would like to display your family information, please contact Rhonda at 812-320-6237 or [email protected] and tell her you would like to have a table available for your family display. There is no charge for this.

Help is available, whether you are just getting started or have been doing research for a while. The family historians will be glad to help you. If they cannot help you on the day of the event, you can add specific questions to a research log and they will do the research later.

The Brown County Historical Society’s gift shop will be open so that attendees can purchase any of the society’s publications. The genealogical society’s publications, in hardcopy or in .pdf format, can also be purchased or ordered on the day of the event.

Free parking will be available.
