Mini marathon planned for Morgan-Monroe trails

MORGAN COUNTY — The Hoosier Hikers Council is sponsoring a mini-marathon Saturday, May 21. Run with the Foxes starts at the Three Lakes Trail in Morgan Monroe State Forest at 9 a.m.

Register online at hoosierhikerscouncil.org. Proceeds are used to maintain and repair trails in the state forest.

Studebaker National Drags coming to local dragway

BEAN BLOSSOM — Saturday, May 28, the Brown County Dragway will host the Studebaker National Drags. This is a chance to see Studebakers and other pre-1966 independent orphan cars making passes down the eight-mile dragway.

Gates open at 9 a.m., a parade lap begins at 10:30 and racing at 11 a.m.

Parks and rec wrestling now open to K-12 students

Registration is open for a new Brown County Parks & Recreation wrestling program for students in the sixth through 12th grades.

Practices will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through Sept. 29 in the wrestling room in the Larry C. Banks Memorial Gymnasium at the high school.

The program’s focus is on basic skill development and improvement. Wrestlers also can compete in voluntary competitive meets throughout the year.

The fee is $30 and includes a Brown County Wrestling T-shirt. Sign up at the parks and rec office on Deer Run Lane or at bcparksrec.com.

Younger students also can participate.

Wrestling camp for kindergarten through fifth-grade students takes place Monday and Wednesday evenings through Dec. 28. There is no registration deadline. Register anytime throughout the year, submitting forms and fees to the parks office or at bcparksrec.com.

Golf scramble to fund free books for kids

A golf scramble Thursday, July 21, at Salt Creek Golf Retreat will benefit the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, which provides free books to children in Brown County age 5 and younger.

Zumba classes free for YMCA members

The Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St., offers a Zumba class from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays.

The class is free for YMCA members. A $3 drop-in fee applies for nonmembers.
