BLOOMINGTON — The goal has been the same for Cole Chudy since he started running.

On Saturday, the Brown County senior achieved it — both individually and with his team.

“I’ve always dreamed of reaching the state meet,” Chudy said shortly after completing his second event at the 113th Annual IHSAA Boys Track and Field State Finals. “It was a huge goal.”

Advancing to the state meet in the 1,600-meter run and with senior Collin Hoskins, sophomore Wyatt Wyman and junior Job Lawson, Chudy and the Eagles made their presence known at Indiana University’s Robert C. Haugh Track Complex.

The relay team opened the running portion of the meet by placing 11th overall in a time of 8:00.80, which nearly toppled a school record.

The team was first at the Bloomington North Sectional in 8:11.58 and followed with a runner-up finish in 8:04.40 at regional.

The quartet’s state time was a second shy of a new Eagles’ mark.

Chudy placed 17th in the 1,600 with a 4:24.78. The Colorado Christian recruit took first at sectional in 4:22.74 and was second at regional in 4:24.18.

Running in both events with high humidity throughout the day and popup showers, Chudy admits fatigue slowed him in the mile as his time increased.

Despite the uptick, his seed time improve from 21st.

“I could definitely feel the first race in the second one,” he said. “It was definitely worth it though because I’d rather run for the team than myself.

“If you give it your all, you can walk with your head held high. We can hold our heads up at the end of it all.”
