Former Brown County Fair queen Siera Updike is seeking another crown this week: Miss Indiana.

Updike, 22, of Nashville, was crowned Miss Kosciusko in January. She has been attending Manchester University in nearby Wabash County; she just graduated this month with a degree in athletic training, said her mother, Fawn.

Updike and 33 other contestants from around the state will compete for the title of Miss Indiana starting Wednesday, June 15 in Zionsville. After three nights of preliminary contests, the top 10 will advance to the finals Saturday night, June 18.

Updike, formerly of Jackson County, is a 2012 graduate of Brown County High School and was crowned Brown County Fair queen in 2014 — her first pageant.

Her platform for the state pageant is “Teen dating violence: I am not a victim. I am a survivor.” She also will perform a vocal solo.

Votes are being taken online for a People’s Choice winner who will automatically make it to the finals. Each vote costs $1, which will benefit the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and the Miss Indiana Scholarship Fund. Vote at missindianapageant.com/peopleschoice.html.
