Town council agrees to proceed with paid firefighters plan

The Nashville Town Council has agreed to approach the Brown County Commissioners to form a fire protection territory with Washington Township.

The township is currently in the Brown County Fire Protection District and it can’t join with the town to form a territory without the commissioners’ permission.

That territory would be able to levy a property tax to pay firefighters to man the station in Nashville, which serves Washington Township, the town and much of the state park.

Many more meetings and decisions are ahead before a territory could be established and a new tax levied.
