HAMBLEN TWP. — A Brown County man faces a felony charge of possessing methamphetamine after an officer stopped him for a seat belt violation July 2.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Stargell was patrolling traffic at Hyland Drive and Sweetwater Trail when a maroon car passed him. The passenger was not buckled in, his report said.

Stargell stopped the car at Ford Ridge and Wells Hill roads. He asked the passenger, Ora W. Allison, 51, of Ford Ridge Road, to exit the vehicle and gave him a seat-belt ticket, the report said.

After telling Allison he was “free to go,” Stargell asked to speak with him for a moment. Stargell said he looking for drugs going down the highway. He asked Allison if there was anything illegal in the vehicle. Allison said “there should not be,” but that car did not belong to him or the driver.

Allison told Stargell that he did not use drugs anymore. He handed the officer his keys, change and a pill bottle. Inside the bottle were clear baggies containing methamphetamine, the report said.

Allison told Stargell he had found the bottle in his driveway and put it in his pocket.

A search of the vehicle did not yield any other narcotics.

On the way to jail, Allison told Stargell that “everyone is always trying to get him into trouble by leaving stuff like that behind.”

On July 11, he was charged with possession of methamphetamine, a Level 6 felony.
