Beginning QuickBooks class offered at CRC

CRC offers discounts for multiple enrollments

Small-business counseling available for free

The Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St., offers individual small-business counseling sessions through the Service Corps of Retired Executives.

There is no charge for the sessions, which meet in the morning on the first Thursday of every month. An appointment is required.

Resource center offers nurse training classes

Certified nursing assistant classes are offered periodically at the Brown County Career Resource Center depending on interest. The next class is tentatively planned for September. Call the CRC at 812-988-5880 for more information or to register.

High school equivalency class times set each week

Classes focused on the high school equivalency assessment exam — formerly called GED classes — are taught year-round from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St.

Students who cannot attend at the scheduled times can arrange instruction by appointment or by distance learning.

People enrolled in adult education may be eligible for free job training through Work One.

Lilly Endowment scholarship deadline changes

Brown County Community Foundation is adjusting its timeline for choosing a local Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.

The BCCF will make scholarship applications for 2017 graduates available in early August.

Completed applications will be due Monday, Sept. 19. Other information will be announced publicly and to high school guidance offices when school resumes in August.

The 2017 Brown County Lilly scholar will be named early in December 2016. Previous scholarship recipients were identified in March the year they graduated from high school.

The change affects the program for all Indiana community foundations.

Deadlines for all other BCCF scholarships will remain in the same time frame as previous years; applications will be available in November and due Jan. 30, 2017.

Learn to sign with your baby or toddler

Free sign language classes for babies or toddlers and their parents take place at 2 p.m. Thursdays at the Brown County Public Library, lower level.

Vaccines for uninsured available at health department

The Brown County Health Department, on the second floor of the County Office Building, 201 Locust Lane, is offering all immunizations free of charge for uninsured adults.

Vaccines include tetanus, hepatitis A and B, dTap, MMR, PVC13, PPSV23, varicella and others.

Fall enrollment open at Head Start

Head Start is seeking children to enroll in its preschool program.

Children ages 3 to 5 can sign up now for the 2016-17 school year. Students must be 3 years old by Aug. 1.

Head Start is free for income-eligible families. Bus transportation may be available in some areas.

Sign language classes planned in September

American Sign Language classes are offered at the Brown County Career Resource Center, 246 E. Main St. Beginning, intermediate and advanced classes are planned in September. The classes, from 6 to 8 p.m., last eight weeks.

For previous and current sign language students, a community ASL club meets from 6 to 7:30 p.m. the third Thursday of the month at the Brown County Public Library.
