A Fairland man was arrested after police say he punched and choked a woman and hit a child July 29.

The woman told Conservation Officer Jay Noble Jr. that Andrew Jonathon Robbins, 23, of Fairland, punched her in the face multiple times and pushed her onto a bed at a Brown County State Park cabin.

Noble reported seeing bruises on her neck, a bloody mark on her upper lip and a bloody mark on her chin.

The victim’s child told police that Robbins put her in a choke hold and threw her into a fan.

The child also said Robbins punched him in the arm and hit his face, too.

Noble also reported that Robbins was yelling obscenities at police and did not stop when told to.

On Aug. 5, Robbins was charged with strangulation, a Level 6 felony; two counts of battery resulting in bodily injury, Class A misdemeanors; and two counts of disorderly conduct, Class B misdemeanors.

While strangulation means the act of killing by squeezing the throat, Indiana law defines it as intentionally applying pressure to another person’s throat or obstructing their nose or mouth.
