All are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets to the Village Green Pavilion in downtown Nashville this Saturday, Aug. 20, for the Kenan Rainwater Band, performing at 4:30 p.m. as part of the Pavilion Music Series.

With a playlist that mixes rock, country, soul and retro doo-wop, the band features namesake Kenan Rainwater, Darrick Day, Laura Wanner, Rory H.C. Derryberry and Nolan “Animal” Eastwood.

A native of Brown County, Rainwater helped found the popular Indiana Boys, singing and writing three successful albums. His first solo recording, “The River Flows,” was produced by The Reverend Peyton and featured electric guitars and doo-wop harmonies. He now embraces his “primal nature” on a full set of drums as part of the Kenan Rainwater Band.

Rainwater’s performance is the third in a series of free live music events that began Memorial Day weekend. It’s sponsored by the Johnson Family Charitable Fund through the Brown County Community Foundation.

Other concerts include solo guitarist Jeff Foster on Sept. 17 and Cari Ray Oct. 8.

In addition to the concert, a “celebrity” pie auction will take place with proceeds benefiting Brown County Habitat for Humanity.

Brown County Habitat for Humanity will honor its 11th Volunteer of the Year at Saturday’s concert.

Bill Bardes, a volunteer since 2013, “was not only rare in the fact that he was not recruited and just showed up at the build site; he was rare in the fact that he came to work so many days. His presence was even more significant during Project Helping Hands in that he hardly missed a day,” Habitat volunteer Mark Thompson reported.

Bardes will receive his award during the Aug. 20 Habitat Pie Auction. The live auction will take place at 3:30 p.m.; the Brown County Arts Village Summer Concert Series performance at the Village Green Pavilion starts at 4:30 p.m.
