School board deadline approaching

Brown County residents wishing to be candidates for school board have until noon Friday, Aug. 26 to get paperwork submitted to the Brown County clerk’s office.

Two at-large seats are up for election this November. A previous news brief incorrectly stated that the seats were to represent Districts 2 and 3.

School board candidates are required to get 10 signatures on a petition for nomination and consent. Brown County Clerk Brenda Woods said her office asks for a few additional signatures in case a signature or two are invalid.

Candidates must also file a statement of economic interest. It is available online, along with the petition of nomination and consent, at in.gov/sos/elections.

Candidates must be at least 21 and must have lived in the school district for at least one year before the election. They cannot hold more than one “lucrative office” at a time, as defined by state law.
