Editor’s note: The Brown County Democrat asked principals to pass a note with questions from us to their new teachers. We’ll be introducing them over the next few weeks.

Bonnie Walling

Serving: Van Buren Elementary School as a Title 1 teacher.

Q: Where are you from, originally? I was born in Vincennes, but have been many places. I have lived in Clearwater, Florida. I’ve also lived in the Chicago area.

Q: Where did you work before coming here? Lake Ridge School Corporation in Gary for 10 years and Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation for six years. I have taught kindergarten through third grade. I have been a literacy and achievement coach. I have also been a high abilities coordinator.

Q: What made you decide to be a teacher? I come from a family of teachers. My grandmother taught piano for many years. My mother and her identical twin were teachers. I think it is in my blood.

Q: What are you most looking forward to this school year? Meeting new people and learning a new job in teaching.

Q: What is one thing you want your students to know about you? I love to draw and write. One day I hope to publish a children’s book.
