Election 2016: Who’s on the ballot and important deadlines

The filing period has closed for candidates to be added to the fall general election ballot. These are the choices for local offices:

All voters can vote for school board members, but only one at-large candidate from each district will be elected.

REGISTER TO VOTE

The deadline to register as a Brown County voter or to change the address of your registration is Tuesday, Oct. 11. Call the Brown County clerk’s office at 812-988-5510, visit the courthouse between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays or go to indianavoters.com.

VOTE ABSENTEE

You can vote early in person at the County Office Building in Nashville as early as Wednesday, Oct. 12. Specific days and hours will be announced closer to that date. If you wish to vote absentee by mail, you must request a ballot from the clerk’s office by Monday, Oct. 31.

GOING ELECTRONIC

This fall, all Brown County voters — except those voting absentee by mail — will use electronic voting machines, not paper ballots. To see a video and read a story about how the machines work, visit bcdemocrat.com/2016/08/30/hi_tech or stop by the clerk’s office in the courthouse to try using a machine.

ELECTION DAY

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 8. Brown County polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. To find your polling place and see a ballot with candidates for all offices, including state and national, visit indianavoters.com and type in your address.
