Foster flaunts fingerstyle at pavilion concert

Brown County’s own guitar virtuoso Jeff Foster will perform at the 4:30 p.m. Pavilion Music Series concert Saturday, Sept. 17 at the Village Green in downtown Nashville.

Foster’s style is a mix of smooth jazz, flamenco and classic melodies from his nylon-string guitar.

An international recording artist, Foster has played with many local and regional musicians and was a third-place winner at the 2016 Indiana State Fingerstyle Guitar Festival.

Foster can’t remember a time when he wasn’t playing the guitar. He knew at a young age what he wanted to live his life making music. He practiced nonstop and became a semi-professional musician and guitar teacher while still in high school.

A performer since the early 1970s, Foster has played virtually every style of music over the years, including classical, flamenco, jazz, new-age, rock, country, blues and bluegrass.

In the late-1980s, since he was living in Bloomington, Foster decided to study jazz improvisation under Dr. David Baker at Indiana University.

Today, Foster resides with his wife, Rhonda, and an enormous black German shepherd near Nashville. He teaches music, operates his project studio and web design businesses and continues to perform as a solo guitarist, although he sits in frequently with other performers and bands as opportunities arise.

Bring a blanket or lawn chair to the gazebo at the corner of Main and Jefferson streets for Foster’s appearance as part of the Pavilion Music Series. This is a free concert presented by Arts Village Brown County and sponsored by the Johnson Family Charitable Fund.
