The Rev. Merideth E. Wilfong, Ph.D., 90, of Nashville, passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Wilshire of Lakewood of Lee’s Summit, Missouri.

A memorial service was conducted Sept. 17 at Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Johnston City, Illinois. Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Johnston City.

Pastor Tim Conboy will conduct an additional memorial service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at New Life Community Church, 1450 State Road 135 North in Nashville.

Merideth was born on June 25, 1926. He was born again August 1939. He served at many churches, including Nall’s Memorial Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas; Cane Island Baptist Church, Lake City, AR; Peach Orchard Baptist Church, Peach Orchard, AR; First Baptist Church, Plummerville, AR; Bathabara Baptist Church, Conway, AR; First Baptist Church, Ward, AR; Central Baptist Church, Bald Knob, AR; First Baptist Church, Sheridan, AR; First Baptist Church, Bunker Hill; Arlington Heights Baptist Church, Indianapolis; First Baptist Church, Hope; Country Gospel Music Church, Gnaw Bone; First Baptist Church, Decatur, Illinois; First Baptist Church, Aurora, IL; Kinderhook Baptist Church, Kinderhook, IL; and Washington Ave. Baptist Church, Johnston City, IL.

He received his education from Southern Baptist College, University of Central Arkansas, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Christian Theological Seminary, and International Bible Institute and Seminary, from which seminaries he holds master’s and doctorate degrees in theology. Merideth served on state and national boards and on various executive committees. He was an active American Baptist leader in his region, association, as well as in local and state ministers’ councils. In 1993, he received an award from the Indiana Baptist Churches honoring him for 50 years of ministry.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rachel Chadwick Wilfong; a daughter; two sons-in-law; a grandson; a sister; and two brothers.

Survivors include wife, Lois (Jean) Richeson-Wilfong; children, Gwen Brinkman, Katherine Wilfong and Deborah Annette Wilfong; stepchildren, Ron (Jill) Richeson, Sherri (Dave) Heidenreich and Debbie (Mike) Wey; grandchildren, Deanette Morecraft, Amanda Norris, Lori Cooley, LeAnne (Rick) Kilman, Jason Porter, Chris (Mandy) Wey, Kevin (Bobbi) Wey, Kelly (Dave) Peterson, Jeff (Mary) Richeson, Bethany (Stu) Regan, Jan (Jason) Wallace and Jamie (Sausha) Toghranegar; 29 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marion (Charles) Martin; and brother, John Wilfong.
