SPEARSVILLE — Revival meetings will take place at Spearsville Wesleyan Church, 9174 Bean Blossom Road, at 7 p.m. weekdays through the weekend. Follow signs from State Road 135 North in Bean Blossom.

Blood drive offered at Parkview Nazarene

From 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, Parkview Church of the Nazarene, 1750 State Road 46 East, will have an American Red Cross blood drive.

All blood types are needed. A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of I.D. are required at check-in.

Donors are encouraged to make appointments and complete the RapidPass health history questionnaire at redcrossblood.org/rapidpass to save time.

Meeting for BCCF scholarship seekers

Those seeking scholarships from the Brown County Community Foundation are urged to attend the annual scholarship information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the Brown County High School auditorium, 235 Schoolhouse Lane.

Anyone planning to take classes in the fall of 2017 is welcome. More than $37,000 is available to be awarded to Brown County residents, current high school seniors, students currently enrolled in college, past graduates planning to enroll, and/or G.E.D. graduates. Those who wish to apply must attend this meeting or send an adult representative.

Fashion show planned at Brown County Inn

From 7 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11, Mulberry Cottage will host a fall fashion show at the Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46 East.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and a mini boutique will be set up for shopping before and after the show. The event includes fashion tips and clothing modeled for all ages, sizes small through 3x. After the show, refreshments will be available.

Church breakfast free to community

HAMBLEN TWP. — Sprunica Baptist Church, 3902 Sprunica Road, will serve a free community breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12.

Several craft bazaars planned Nov. 12

Saturday Chocolate Walk to benefit humane society

Tickets for the ninth annual Chocolate Walk to benefit the Brown County Humane Society are on sale now.

The event, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, takes place throughout Nashville, with ticketholders collecting chocolate samples at more than 30 local shops and restaurants.

Bean supper, mystery auction at Hickory Ridge

SPEARSVILLE — At 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, Hickory Ridge Civic League and Community Center, 2314 Hickory Ridge Lane, will host a bean supper and mystery auction.

The supper includes beans, cornbread, fried potatoes, hot dogs, drink and dessert for $5 per adult and $3 per child 12 and younger. The auction has mystery wrapped packages with three clues per item.

Work Sunday to follow church service

Nashville United Methodist Church, at the corner of Jefferson and Main streets, will conduct one service at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.

After the service, congregation members will participate in “The Church has Left the Building,” in which teams will go out into the community to complete various projects such as painting, leaf raking and gutter cleaning.

Live birds of prey, silent auction at fundraiser

The sixth annual Raptor Rendezvous will be at Abe Martin Lodge in Brown County State Park from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.

Hosted by the Indiana Raptor Center, the event includes an afternoon snack buffet, cash bar, silent auction, program with live birds of prey, and a photo opportunity after the program. The program has been streamlined, the agenda rearranged, so the silent auction ends before the bird program starts to allow people to leave as needed.

Raptor Center birds to be shown this year are new additions. Wild Care, Utopia Wildlife Rehabilitators and Illinois Raptor Center will bring additional birds.

Open house at the library for county beautification

From 4 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, Keep Brown County Beautiful will have an open house for all educators in the lower level of the Brown County Public Library. All teachers, educators, homeschool parents and Scout leaders are welcome to learn about the “Waste in Place” curriculum for early to middle school students.

At 5 p.m. Elmo, a bird from the Indiana Raptor Center, will teach how littering is hazardous for wildlife. Light refreshments will follow.

Bicentennial celebration at history center

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, the Brown County History Center, 90 E. Gould St., will host a celebration of Indiana’s bicentennial. Sponsored by the historical society, Peaceful Valley Heritage Preservation and the League of Women Voters, the event features three speakers:

• Pam Raider, vice president of the League of Women Voters, will speak on “Wellness and Heritage in Brown County: a Vision 2020 Project.”
• Mark Dollase, vice president of preservation services for Indiana Landmarks, will speak about efforts to put locations in Brown County State Park on the National Register of Historic Places.
• Brown County commissioner Diana Biddle will speak about the Hoosier Hills Scenic Byway project.

Refreshments will be served by Kevin Ault of Hotel Nashville.

BCJHS Reality Store volunteers sought

Brown County Junior High has chosen Thursday, Dec. 1 for the annual Reality Store. Adult volunteers are needed to work with eighth-graders as they try to make a budget work for one month of living expenses.

Two sessions will be offered between 8:20 and 11:24 a.m. Volunteers should arrive earlier and are welcome to stay for a pizza lunch afterward.

MORGANTOWN — Saturday, Dec. 17, is Wreaths Across America Day, a designation begun in Arlington National Cemetery to honor veterans.
