Spend Thanksgiving with your community neighbors

If you have no one to share Thanksgiving with this year, if money is a little tight, or if one dinner just isn’t enough for your schedule, the Brown County EMT Association wants you at their table.

A community Thanksgiving dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 24 at the Brown County High School cafeteria. No reservations are necessary, and everyone is welcome.

The Brown County EMT Association has organized the dinner for 33 years.

Last year, about 380 people were served, most of them on a delivery route, said EMS Supervisor Chris Henderson.

That’s a little bit down from past years, and he’s still hoping to see more families come in and eat. Getting the word out and encouraging families to come has always been a challenge, he said.

TRIAD will deliver meals to the homebound if a request is made by Tuesday, Nov. 22. To get on a list, call the EMT Association at 812-988-7808 or TRIAD at 812-988-5606.

Henderson said if requests come in later than the deadline — even the morning of Thanksgiving — they’ll still try to accommodate.

Monetary donations will be accepted before and after the dinner at People’s State Bank, in care of “EMT Thanksgiving Dinner.”

Donations are also welcome at the door.

Any money received that isn’t needed to pay for the dinner will be donated to the Nashville Shop With a Cop program and to the No Name Committee, both of which help local children get new clothing for Christmas.
