A Brown County man has been sentenced to serve more than a year in jail for attempting to outrun police twice in a vehicle and for possessing methamphetamine.

Jeffrey D. Howard, 30, was sentenced Dec. 22 for four different cases.

Nearly a year ago, on Jan. 16, a Brown County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Howard on Spearsville Road near Hornettown Road when a license plate check showed he was wanted out of Bartholomew County. Howard led police on a chase to Appleworks in Johnson County, then ran from the car on County Road 250, leaving a woman and a 5-month-old baby in the car.

Howard was sentenced to serve 545 days and 180 days in the Brown County jail for resisting law enforcement and reckless driving, respectively. A Level 6 felony neglect of a dependent charge and a Class A misdemeanor resisting law enforcement charge were dismissed.

On Jan. 22, Howard was driving another car in the area of Ed Harsh Road and Sweetwater Trail when police found him and he led them on another chase. He crashed that car on Wells Hill Road and ran. Police found him and his two adult passengers about 10 minutes later.

In that case, Howard was sentenced to serve 545 days and 60 days in the Brown County jail for resisting law enforcement and reckless driving, respectively. A possession of paraphernalia charge and a second resisting law enforcement charge were dismissed.

On Aug. 25, Howard was arrested for possessing methamphetamine. He was sentenced to 545 days in the Brown County jail in that case.

For an October criminal mischief case, for damaging a car that did not belong to him, Howard was sentenced to pay $183 in court costs.
