A stop for speeding on State Road 46 East in November resulted in the arrest of a Kentucky man after police say they found 500 Xanax pills in his car.

On Jan. 20, Randall S. Strause, 22, of Prospect, Kentucky, was charged with dealing in a Schedule IV controlled substance, a Class A misdemeanor.

Nashville Police Officer Matthew Hatchett pulled over Strause for driving 68 mph in a 50 mph zone at Parkview Church of the Nazarene. Hatchett reported smelling marijuana in the vehicle, and Strause told him he had smoked in the vehicle but “not for a while,” the probable-cause affidavit said.

When Hatchett began searching the vehicle, Strause told him there was a bag in the passenger seat storage pocket. Yellow and green Xanax pills were separated into two bags, Hatchett reported.

Strause was arrested and taken to the Brown County jail. At the jail, Strause told Hatchett he was addicted to Xanax and that it was cheaper to buy the pills in bulk, at a $1 per pill, than in small amounts.

Strause refused to tell Hatchett where he bought the pills, the affidavit said.

Inside Strause’s wallet was $43, separate from a sum of $702. Strause told Hatchett the $702 was to buy pills and Hatchett seized the larger sum as evidence, the report said.
