About 20 acres in the Gnaw Bone area were burned in a fire which multiple departments fought Saturday, Feb. 4.

A passerby called Brown County dispatch after seeing flames on a ridge in the 5000 block of Annie Smith Road at around 5:20 p.m. The caller wasn’t sure if it was a structure fire or ground fire, said First Lt. Shawn Fosnight with the Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department.

When he arrived, Fosnight reported seeing flames across a ridgetop and making their way down a hill toward Annie Smith Road.

Firefighters had trouble getting to where it was burning, but they were able to gain access via a logging trail on Brown Hill Road and a private driveway, Fosnight said.

Crews from Jackson Township, Frutidale, Hamblen Township, Van Buren Township and Harrison Township volunteer fire departments were at the scene for about three hours. No injuries were reported.

The cause and origin of the fire are undetermined at this time, Fosnight said.
