BLOOMINGTON — More than two dozen spellers from five counties will compete Saturday, Feb. 11 in the IU Bee at the Monroe County Public Library, vying for the chance to participate in the national spelling bee in National Harbor, Maryland.

This competition will serve as the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee for south-central Indiana.

Three Brown County students are among the contestants: Zoe Cox from Brown County Intermediate School, Rosalyn McGrayel from Sprunica Elementary School and Samantha Smith from Brown County Junior High.

The winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip for two to the national competition May 28 to June 4.

The Media School at IU and the IU School of Education are cosponsors of the bee, which began in 2004.
