Police: Man shot self in face

HAMBLEN TWP. — A Bittersweet Lake Lane man was taken to a hospital Feb. 1 after he told police he accidentally shot himself in the face while attempting to unload a gun.

Frank Conly told Brown County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Brad Stogsdill he dropped his gun while he was unloading it. He grabbed the gun, causing it to go off, according to a report by Detective Paul Henderson.

A woman was home when Stogsdill and Henderson arrived, but she told police she was not there when the incident occurred.

Henderson reported the man was lying on a bed, conscious and alert with an exit wound on the right side of his jaw below the ear.

Conly denied intentionally shooting himself. He was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
