Bowl to benefit local mentorship program

COLUMBUS — Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bartholomew and Brown counties will benefit from a national fundraiser, Bowl For Kids Sake, Saturday, March 4.

While the main event will be at the Columbus Bowling Center, 3010 State St., as well as online, smaller projects within Brown County are being planned.

Bowling time slots are planned between 9 a.m. and 5:10 p.m. Four people make a team. Each team is asked to raise a minimum of $400, $80 per team member, with an overall goal of $110,000.

Anyone not able to attend the event can sign up to be a “virtual bowler.” They can customize and share a webpage to raise money, donate online and be eligible to win prizes.

New times, days for Zumba sessions at the YMCA

The Brown County YMCA, 105 Willow St., offers a Zumba class at 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

A Zumba Plus class, which includes drumming, yoga or meditation, is offered Thursdays at 3:30 p.m.

This session of classes runs through Thursday, March 30.

Each class is free for YMCA members. A $3 drop-in fee applies for nonmembers.

Open gym times updated at local YMCA

The Brown County YMCA offers open gym for basketball, volleyball and pickleball for players 16 and older of all ability levels, with informal, friendly games.

Basketball is offered from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for junior and senior high school students, and 5 to 9 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays for all ages.

Volleyball is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

Pickleball is 6 to 8 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, 7 to 9 a.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The rock wall is open from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays for all ages.

Open gym hours are free for Y members and $3 per non-member.
