Sasha Robinson has been getting some attention for her hustle on the court with the University of Evansville’s women’s basketball team.

Robinson, a 2013 Brown County High School graduate and senior at Evansville, was climbing the all-time standings this season in career rebounds.

She told the Evansville Courier and Press that she honed her style by practicing with the boys in Brown County.

“In high school I would always go to the guys’ open gyms and I would play with the guys, or I would even go to some of the men’s practices,” she said. “I was never afraid to get nitty and gritty with people.”

Robinson averaged 11.0 points and 10.1 rebounds in four seasons at Brown County and was a starter from Day 1 at Evansville, the newspaper reported.

The college team which a Brown County High School alumna helped to start is now a division champion.

The Indiana University Kokomo women’s basketball team earned the NAIA Division II title with a 69-56 win over Alice Lloyd College on Feb. 18 and hosted its first-ever conference tournament game last week.

The team was started only three seasons ago, and 2014 Brown County graduate Whitney Williamson was one of its first recruits. She and three other juniors have played ever since.

Williamson was one of the team leaders in her senior season at Brown County, when the Eagles went 13-6 overall and 4-2 in the Western Indiana Conference.

The conference championship will be played Feb. 28; the winner earns a bid to the national tournament.
