A Brown County man is in jail on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor and child solicitation after a woman told police he abused her for six years.

Jody Jaggers, 45, 9814 Short Chute Road, was arrested at home March 14.

Police started investigating Jaggers in August 2015. The victim had filed for a protective order against him in Vigo County, and she told police there about the abuse, according to a probable-cause affidavit.

Indiana State Police Trooper Chris Griggs first came in contact with Jaggers that month while conducting a welfare check. Someone had reported Jaggers was threatening to kill himself, the affidavit said. Jaggers told the officer he was upset about a text message and had been contemplating suicide, but he was fine.

Griggs wrote in the affidavit that “something didn’t seem right” when talking with Jaggers.

Brown County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Moore conducted a second welfare check a few days later. Moore then told Griggs that the victim had told Vigo County authorities Jaggers had been abusing her.

From August to October 2015, police gathered evidence.

The victim told police the abuse had occurred in four counties: Brown, Johnson, Lawrence and Monroe.

When she left Brown County, Jaggers created a fake Facebook account to contact her, she said.

He was arrested Oct. 2, 2015 on a Vigo County warrant for felony identity deception and misdemeanor invasion of privacy. He pleaded guilty in July 2016 and was sentenced to serve 20 days in jail and two-and-half years on probation.

On March 14, Brown County Prosecutor Ted Adams filed charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class C felony, and child solicitation, a Class D felony, against Jaggers. Those charges are now categorized differently under current state law, but they reflect the time period in which they allegedly occurred.

Jaggers was arrested the same day after police were again called to the Short Chute Road home on a welfare check. He was taken to the Brown County jail, where he remains on $20,000 bond.

He pleaded not guilty at his initial hearing March 14. Public defender Courtney Jones was appointed to represent him.

A tentative jury trial date was set for June 14.
