Quilt guild

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Star Quilt Guild will meet Wednesday, April 5 at St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 20, 4131 Rocky Ford Road.

The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m. It will include “Capering with Creativity” by nationally known quilt artist, teacher and lecturer Wendy Butler Berns. Bring show-and-tell items. All are welcome.

Woodworkers club

CORDRY-SWEETWATER — The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 5, at the home of Tom Lowe, 6982 Eagle Drive off Sweetwater Trail.

Rotary club

At the next Brown County Rotary Club meeting, Justin Loveless will tell how the Chocolate Moose came to Brown County as a follow-up to the longtime Bloomington confectionery by the same name. The meeting will begin at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, April 6 at Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

His Chocolate Moose opened in a remodeled building at 278 S. Van Buren St. last year and is a partnership with Brown County Coffee. They specialize in coffee and a wide range of ice cream confections with the emphasis on chocolate.

Kurt Kemper, a certified financial advisor for Hilliard Lyons, will share his insight on pharmaceutical companies and the wide range of prescription drugs when the club meets at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, April 13 at Artists Colony Inn. The public is welcome.

Kemper is a Wall Street investment research analyst who covers the healthcare industry.

Rotarian Scott Dedomenic is coordinating the local Rotary Club’s programs in April with an emphasis on business.

WRAPS

The Writers Readers and Poets Society reads and discusses the literary compositions of those present. WRAPS meets from 7 to 9 p.m. the first and third Thursdays of each month at Brown County Public Library. All interested persons are welcome.

Widowed group

BLOOMINGTON —The Brown County Widowed Group will meet at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Red Lobster at the intersection of Third Street and the State Road 46 bypass.

To carpool, meet at the northeast corner of the Brown County IGA parking lot for a 12:20 p.m. departure. Call Joanne Day at 812-597-5593 or Keith Bradway at 812-597-0811 if attending.

The group will also sponsor euchre parties at the Sycamore Valley Community Center, 746 Memorial Drive by the fairgrounds, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 11 and Saturday, April 15.

Woodturners club

UNIONVILLE — The Village Woodturners, a group that focuses on projects made by wood lathe, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 12 at 5760 N. Tunnel Road, just off State Road 45, at Don Housman’s shop.

Herb society

The Brown County Herb Society meets at 6:30 p.m. the third Monday of each month in the lower level of the Brown County Public Library. The next meeting is April 17. Anyone interested in herbs and their uses is welcome.

Lions club

Lions membership is open to all who like to work on service projects. Upcoming events include:

  • Saturday, May 6, the Spring Blossom Parade downtown Nashville;
  • Saturday, May 13, spring pancake breakfast at Parkview Church of the Nazarene Family Life Center, 1750 State Road 46 East, across from the state park’s north entrance; and
  • Tuesday, July 4, annual fireworks display at the Brown County High School track with scheduled rain date. Contributions to the fireworks last year (cancelled due to bad weather and no set rain date) were held onto for 2017.
