A Medora man has been charged with felony theft in Brown County after police say he stole a trailer that was being stored at a local flea market.

Kurt A. Timberlake, 31, was charged with theft, criminal trespass and criminal mischief on March 30.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Austin Schonfeld and Sgt. Scott Bowling spoke with the owner of the trailer March 3. He said a watchman at the flea market had seen a truck leaving with the trailer early in the morning March 1. The watchman had assumed it was the owner who picked it up.

After he shined his spotlight on the truck, he went inside to get his phone to take a picture of the truck, and when he came back out the truck was driving through a locked gate with the trailer attached, the probable-cause affidavit said.

On March 4, Jackson County deputies found the trailer in Sparksville. While in custody in Jackson County, Timberlake and another man admitted to stealing it and returning to Jackson County to try and sell it, the affidavit said.

At press time, the second man has not been charged.
