Scroggins earns real estate license
After 18 years of owning and operating Bear Hardware, Penny Scroggins has received her real estate license.
Scroggins is now working with Berkshire Hathaway Home Services.
She said real estate has always been a passion of hers, and as empty-nesters, she and her husband, Curt, have too much time on their hands. The couple plan to continue working as a team, her agent bio says on her website, bhhsinrealty.com/penny-scroggins.

Insurance agency receives longevity award
A Nashville insurance agency has been recognized for being in business for half a century.
On March 27, Bright & Williamson Insurance agent Alisha Jacoba accepted the Governor’s Half Century Business award from Gov. Eric Holcomb and Indiana Economic Development Corporation President Elaine Bedel.
The century and half-century awards recognize Indiana businesses that have remained in continuous operation for at least 100 or 50 years and have demonstrated a history of community service.
Bright & Williamson Insurance was founded in 1921 as Lee Bright Insurance and Real Estate.
Applications for the 2018 century and half-century awards are being accepted at iedc.gov.
Rehabilitation programs recognized nationally
Columbus Regional Health’s three outpatient rehabilitation centers have been awarded Outcomes Excellence certificates from Focus On Therapeutic Outcomes Inc., a nationwide reporting service for health care providers.
The centers at Mill Race Center, the Marr Road facility and the Columbus Regional Health Rehabilitation Center in Nashville received excellence awards for all four quarters throughout 2016.
Receiving the FOTO Outcomes Excellence certificate demonstrates the centers’ continued ability to improve patients’ function in fewer visits and shorter duration compared to the national average, a CRH news release said.
CRH’s outpatient rehabilitation centers are ranked in the top 10 percent in the country for functional improvement and have a 98 percent patient satisfaction level, the release said.
Administrative professional of the year
The Brown County Water Utility office administration manager received the Administrative Professional of the Year award in April from the Alliance of Indiana Rural Water.
As office administration manager, Masteller is responsible for office operations, equipment, daily activities and projects for Brown County Water Utility.
Masteller also does the public relations for the water company, ensures the company is in compliance with all local, state and federal levels and handles personnel issues.
Masteller was nominated by Ben Phillips, who is the water company’s board of directors president.
“Ellen has applied so many common sense remedies to our daily office procedures that were not efficient,” Phillips said citing how Masteller saved the company money by changing the mailing address and revising the telephone system.
“With her background in banking she has brought Brown County Water from barely balancing each month to having a comfortable balance at the end of the each cycle. Her daily contributions to the company are very much appreciated,” Phillips continued.
The Alliance of Indiana Rural Water is a non-profit membership association of over 800 water and wastewater systems and related professionals.
