A 23-year-old Nashville man faces a felony after police say he took a relative’s vehicle without permission.

On Jan. 12, Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Brian Shrader went to a home in the 2300 block of Gatesville Road and was told that Tyler J. Asbury of Gatesville Road had stolen a blue Chevy Trailblazer.

The relative told police that Asbury was trying to get her to take him down the road, but she refused to do so because she was in bed.

Asbury asked for the keys to her Trailblazer so he could sit in it and calm down, which is something he did sometimes. However, he refused to give the keys back and took off in the vehicle, the affidavit said.

Later in the day, the relative reported receiving texts from Asbury stating he would run from the police if they tried to stop him.

Dispatch was able to find the location of the cellphone, which was in Marion County. Less than two hours later, police in Marion County had found the vehicle and had Asbury in custody.

He was charged Jan. 12 with auto theft, a Level 6 felony.
