A traffic stop for speeding on State Road 46 West on April 11 resulted in two local teens being charged with dealing marijuana and possessing paraphernalia.

Nashville Police Officer pulled a vehicle driven by Benjamin W. Voils IV, 18, for traveling 64 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone in the 1400 block of State Road 46 West. While speaking with Voils and two other passengers, Williams reported smelling marijuana, the probable cause affidavit states.

Sgt. Scott Bowling and Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht arrived on scene. When Williams asked Voils about the smell, he told police that marijuana and a glass smoking pipe were in the center console.

One of the passengers, Maddix S. Mainord, 18, went through his pockets and found a homemade one-hitter with burnt residue inside, the affidavit states.

A search of the car revealed a 10.4-gram bag of marijuana, multiple sandwich bags, two glass smoking pipes with burnt marijuana inside, a grinder with marijuana in it, a torn vacuum bag sealed with marijuana residue, and $266 in a wallet belonging to Voils, the affidavit said.

Voils said all of the items belonged to him and he admitted to selling marijuana, the report said. He told police he used $200 to buy an ounce of marijuana from Bloomington. He allowed police to search and photograph his cellphone.

Williams reported reading text messages that showed people requesting to meet Voils so they could buy marijuana from him. Williams said it appeared Voils sold marijuana in quantities that cost between $10 and $20.

A juvenile passenger was picked up by a parent. Juvenile probation was contacted.

Police confiscated $190 of the $266 in Voils’ wallet since he allegedly made the money selling marijuana.

Voils and Mainord were both issued summons to appear in court.

On April 28, Voils was charged with dealing in marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor; possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor; and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor. Mainord was charged with possession of paraphernalia.
