Bald Eagles

The Brown County Bald Eagles will host their June meeting Saturday, June 10, at the Brown County Inn, 51 State Road 46 East.

Randy Yablonowski will speak about his career in aviation and, in particular, his involvement in counter-terrorist equipment development when he flew in the Nellis, Nevada, Air Force Base test ranges. He currently flies the Lifeline helicopter, recovering patients that need immediate medical attention.

The meet-and-greet will start at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30. Meal choices are fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy; fish and chips; or salad with grilled chicken. The meal is $18, cash or check, paid at the door. Dress is casual.

The Brown County Bald Eagles have been meeting twice a year for more than 25 years. They are military veterans and others with an interest in aviation and aviation history.

Family histories group

The next Family Histories and Mysteries program will feature guest speaker Brent Gill talking about Native American heritage, culture, spirituality and social issues. He’ll speak from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 31, at the Brown County Public Library.

Gill is a past chairman of Indiana’s Native American Indian Affairs Commission.

The library group meets in lower-level meeting room B the last Wednesday of each month.

Rotary club

The Brown County Rotary Club meets for breakfast at 7:15 a.m. Thursdays in Nashville’s Artists Colony Inn, 105 S. Van Buren St.

Area residents interested in learning more about Rotary are welcome.

Quilters guild

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Star Quilters Guild’s regular monthly meeting will be Wednesday, June 7 at St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 20, 4131 Rocky Ford Road. The meeting starts at 9:30 a.m.

The June program will include Janet Gagneur who will demonstrate thread painting. A “show-and-tell” of member projects and guest projects is planned.

There is no charge for the meeting; all are welcome.

Woodworkers club

The Brown County Woodworkers Club will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 7 at the Brown County Public Library. Mark Tschida of Press Puzzles will present the program.

League of Women Voters

The League of Women Voters of Brown County meets from 10 a.m. to noon the second Monday of each month in the lower level of the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. The next meeting is June 12.

Widowed group

The Brown County Widowed Group will sponsor a euchre party at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 13 at Sycamore Valley Community Center at the fairgrounds.

Woodturners club

UNIONVILLE — The Village Woodturners, a group that focuses on projects made by wood lathe, meets at 7 p.m. second Wednesdays every other month. The next meeting will be June 14. For directions, contact Don Housman at 812-720-1174 or [email protected].

Herb society

COLUMBUS — The Brown County Herb Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, June 19, at Natural Choices, 1825 Central Ave. Owner Carolyn Behrman will be the featured speaker. All are welcome.

P.E.O. Sisterhood

INDIANAPOLIS — P.E.O. Sisterhood, an international philanthropic and educational organization founded in 1869, conducted its Indiana state convention May 18 to 20 at the Wyndham Indianapolis West Hotel.

Judy Zimmerman, president of the local CU chapter, attended as a delegate. Area members Jan Greenlee, Jan Swigert, Linda Todd and Gloria Berryman served on the hospitality committee.

P.E.O. provides loans, grants and scholarships for women to help achieve their educational goals. The local CU chapter has provided $13,000 over the past six years.

Members will participate Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17 in a P.E.O. garage sale on Artist Drive, with all proceeds going to grants and scholarships.

Cemetery association

The Deckard Cemetery Association met at the cemetery May 21, with 17 in attendance.

Jim Ault, vice president, conducted the meeting due to the poor health of the president. Paul Ollen Henderson was re-elected as trustee for the association. President Ollen Henderson and Vice President Ault were reelected. Jeannie Deckard remains treasurer. Jeanette Richart, absent last year due to ill health, was a surprise attendee. The May 20 death of Donnie Deckard was announced. Marjorie Deckard‘s perseverance in the face of health challenges was reported. Representatives of the Brown County Cemetery Preservation Society were in attendance.

WRAPS

The Writers Readers and Poets Society meets from 7 to 9 p.m. first and third Thursdays each month to read and discuss the literary compositions of those present. Meetings are at the Brown County Public Library, 205 N. Locust Lane. All are welcome.
