Man charged with criminal confinement

GNAW BONE — Police were called to an apartment office in Gnaw Bone May 22 after a woman reported a man was refusing to return her clothes and cellphone.

The woman told Brown County Sgt. Scott Bowling that she was across the street from the apartments at the home of David Davis, 37, and had been trying to leave the home for an hour, but Davis would not let her, a probable cause affidavit states.

The woman said Davis had her cellphone and clothing she had left there.

Davis and two women had been at a birthday party in Indianapolis when he left after getting in an argument with one of them. The two women were able to get a ride back to Davis’ home, but Davis began to argue with one of the women again and she left, the affidavit said.

The other woman told Bowling that Davis would not let her near the door and kept her inside. She said he was and “flipping out” on her. She said she tried to get her cellphone from Davis, but that he wouldn’t give it to her.

Once she was able to leave, the woman went across the street to the apartment complex to find a phone to call her daughter for help.

Davis was arrested, but started yelling about a man in a truck watching him and began kicking at police, not wanting to get in the police vehicle, the report said. It took four police officers to get Davis into the vehicle, the affidavit said.

Davis was charged May 23 with criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony; resisting law enforcement, a Class A misdemeanor; and conversion, a Class A misdemeanor.
