New gallery participating in June art walk

Anabel Hopkins Fine Art gallery and studio will participate in the Village Art Walk on Saturday, June 10. The new gallery is on Old Hickory Lane just north of Antique Alley, across from Chris Trotter, the chainsaw artist.

A new artist also has joined the studio: Lory Williams Winford of Nashville.

Bluegrass festival in June to last a week

BEAN BLOSSOM — From Saturday to Saturday, June 10 to 17, Bill Monroe Memorial Music Park and Campground will host the 51st annual bluegrass festival.

With more than 70 bands will perform at the park, 5163 State Road 135 North. Camping is available.

Reception to honor artists Oblack, Riley

James Oblack of Nashville and Mary Riley of Franklin have been named the featured artists at the Brown County Art Guild for June.

Oblack earned a bachelor’s degree in geology in 1975 with a minor in art. In the mid ’70s he studied watercolor with Luke Buck, and watercolor soon became his medium of choice. Now, after 38 years, he is semi-retired and still thoroughly enjoying painting. He became a member of the Brown County Art Guild in 2016.

For Riley, a poem or line of prose is often the genesis of a painting. Drawing and printmaking were the beginning of her artistic explorations and now oil on canvas is her medium of choice. She became a member of the Brown County Art Guild in 2016.

Located at 48 S. Van Buren St., the Brown County Art Guild is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays to Saturdays and noon to 4 p.m. Sundays in June.

A reception for the artists will take place Saturday, June 10 from 5 to 8 p.m. during the Village Art Walk.

Village Pavilion Music Series returns

The Town of Nashville will again host a free public concert series at the Village Pavilion at Main and Jefferson streets through October. Bring a lawn chair.

Make jewelry at state park Nature Center

From April to July, artist-in-residence Amy Greely will lead jewelry-making workshops from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. one Saturday per month at Brown County State Park’s Nature Center.

Remaining dates are June 24 and July 15.

Part of an Arts in the Parks grant, the workshops include a 10 a.m. hike to explore the understory of the forest floor to provide inspiration.

Impressionistic painting workshop set for July

Two award-winning painters, Patricia Rhoden Bartels and Kathy Blankenheim, will teach “secrets of painting like an Indiana master” over three days in July.

Participants will learn basic design, color theory and painting techniques, with an emphasis on the history of impressionism in Indiana art. The workshop is suitable for beginner and experienced painters of any age.

It will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 to Friday, July 14 at the Brown County Art Gallery on Artist Drive. The cost is $300.

The Paint Box art gallery, 92 W. Franklin in Antique Alley, is seeking artists to display their work as panels become available.

B3 Gallery, in a new location at 61 W. Main St., is seeking additional Hoosier artwork to display.

Back Roads of Brown County tours scheduled

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily during October, 24 artists will open their studios to the public in 15 locations around Brown County.

Visitors can meet artists, watch them work, explore their studios and buy a variety of handmade work directly from artists.
