A Brown County woman will make her second try at becoming Miss Indiana this weekend.

Siera Updike, 23, is the reigning Miss Kiwanis Balloon Fest. She’ll be among 35 young women vying for the Miss Indiana crown this week in Zionsville. Preliminaries take place Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and the final competition starts at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 17.

Updike is a graduate of Manchester University with a degree in athletic training. She graduated from Brown County High School in 2012 and was crowned the Brown County Fair queen in 2014.

She also competed at the Miss Indiana pageant last summer as Miss Kosciusko.

Miss Indiana will advance to the Miss America pageant in September in New Jersey. Miss Indiana contestants also compete for more than $40,000 in scholarships.

Updike’s personal platform is “Teen Dating Violence Awareness: I am not a victim. I am a survivor.” Her talent is a vocal performance.

Fans can help pick who makes it to the finals by voting for a People’s Choice contestant at missindianapageant.com/peopleschoice.html. Each vote costs $1.

Updike maintains a Facebook page as Miss Kiwanis Balloon Fest.

The finals will be webcast live June 17; visit missindianapageant.com for a link later this week.
