The Brown County Lions Club’s July 4 fireworks display will not take place on the holiday, which falls on a Tuesday this year.

Instead, the show at the high school football field will start at dusk Saturday, July 1, Lions President Deadra Nail said.

The July 4 date had been announced in a letter to the editor from Lion Delbert Crocker in March and printed in club news for several weeks after that. Nail said a discussion was had in a committee meeting last year about moving the show to a weekend and setting up a rain date, and unfortunately the wrong date was communicated because the decision was made so many months ago.

Last year, it rained on July 4, so there was no fireworks show; the Lions hadn’t set a rain date.

This year, if there’s lightning, a heavy downpour or heavily overcast skies on July 1, the show will be moved to July 4, Nail said.

The Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department also moved its pre-fireworks cookout to July 1.

A different provider will shoot this year’s fireworks. Don Altop read the news about the show being on July 4, so he made a commitment to do the Cordry-Sweetwater fireworks on July 1, Nail said. He wrote a letter to the editor this week.
