Zachary Roush

DEFIANCE, Ohio — Zachary Roush of Nashville was awarded the Bronze Pilgrim Award at his graduation from Defiance College on May 7.

The Bronze Pilgrim is given to graduating seniors who give the most promise of exemplifying the traits enumerated on the medal: reliance in self, pride in work, courage in conscience, strength in education and faith in God.

Roush, the son of Kevin and Kristi Roush of Nashville, graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in digital forensic science. As a McMaster Scholar to Belize for three years, Roush taught water safety and lifesaving, helped others with technology and also helped document family history. With minors in criminal justice and mathematics, Roush helped develop a facial recognition program for missing children on the internet. He served as president of the Carolyn M. Small Honors Program, was involved in many campus organizations and was a member of the cross country and track teams.

Elizabeth Jackson

BOURBONNAIS, Illinois — Elizabeth Jackson of Nineveh, a sophomore majoring in marketing, is a member of Olivet Nazarene University’s Enactus presentation team.

Enactus focuses on entrepreneurship projects that benefit humanity. The Olivet team competed in the U.S. National Exposition and finished second in the opening round for its division. At the national competition, the team placed just behind the one which ultimately finished third in the nation.

ISU dean’s list

TERRE HAUTE — The following area students were named to Indiana State University’s dean’s list for the spring semester of 2017: Kaylee Satter of Bean Blossom; Emily Brady, Collin Graeber, Arika Hamblen and Edward Ryan, all of Nashville; and Ashley Pugh of Nineveh.

To be eligible for the list, students must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.5 or higher.
