Make jewelry at state park Nature Center
From April to July, artist-in-residence Amy Greely will lead jewelry-making workshops from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 24 and Saturday, July 15 at Brown County State Park’s Nature Center.
Part of an Arts in the Parks grant, the workshops include a 10 a.m. hike to explore the understory of the forest floor to provide inspiration.
Free drawing workshop planned at library
From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 24, Gillian Harris will lead adults in a free class in graphic drawing, a highly detailed form of art, at the Brown County Public Library.

Plein air workshop at state historic site
BELMONT — Watercolor artist Betty Wagoner will teach a workshop outdoors at T.C. Steele State Historic Site from 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, July 8.
For adults and mature teens, the program is free with standard admission, which is $7 per adult, $6 per senior, $4 per child age 3 to 17. Supplies are provided and registration is required. Call 812-988-2785.

Applications are being accepted for the 19th annual Back Roads of Brown County studio tour. A juried event, the October tour is founded and produced by local artists.

June artists bring stained glass, jewelry to gallery
The work of stained glass/photography artist Anne Ryan Miller and jeweler Elizabeth Parrock will be on display in June at Hoosier Artist Gallery, 45 S. Jefferson St.
Miller is known for her multi-layer copper overlay technique within stained glass. Parrock designs pins, pendants and other items with beads, stone cabochons, silver, bronze, copper and Native American off-loom weaving techniques.
Oil and watercolor artists featured at guild
Artwork by James Oblack of Nashville and Mary Riley of Franklin are the focal point at the Brown County Art Guild, 48 S. Van Buren St., during June.
Oblack earned a degree in geology in 1975 with a minor in art. After he studied watercolor with Luke Buck, it soon became his medium of choice. Now semi-retired, Oblack became a member of the guild in 2016.
Drawing and printmaking were the beginning of Riley’s artistic explorations. Now, oil on canvas is her preferred method. She became a member of the guild in 2016.

Prayer urns on exhibit at gallery
A show featuring ceramic prayer urns by Jama Young will run through Wednesday, July 5, at B3 Gallery, 61 W. Main St. on the second floor.
Young, A New Castle native and resident of Plainfield, says, “It’s my mission in life to promote spiritual health and introduce people to meditation and prayer.”
“Prayer Urns, Hope Series No. 2” is a collection of urns designed to hold prayers, hopes, burdens and thoughts written on paper. The papers can then be lit, allowing the prayers to release in the smoke. Young has also created a custom incense which can be burned in the urns.
Young also creates sculptural pieces and ornaments with spiritual messages.
The gallery, on the second floor of the Village Green Building, represents Indiana-made artwork for more than 30 local artists. For more information, call the gallery at 812-988-6675.
Impressionistic painting workshop set for July
Two award-winning painters, Patricia Rhoden Bartels and Kathy Blankenheim, will teach “secrets of painting like an Indiana master” over three days in July.
Participants will learn basic design, color theory and painting techniques, with an emphasis on the history of impressionism in Indiana art. The workshop is suitable for beginner and experienced painters of any age.
It will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 12 to Friday, July 14 at the Brown County Art Gallery on Artist Drive. The cost is $300.

Weave-in, Spin-in planned monthly at library
Weavers and spinners of all skill levels can bring looms, spindles and wheels to the Brown County Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon Saturdays, July 15 and Aug. 19.
Weaving and spinning experts and beginners are welcome to ask questions and to share projects and ideas at the free events for teens and adults. No registration is needed.

Back Roads of Brown County tours scheduled
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily during October, 24 artists will open their studios to the public in 15 locations around Brown County.
Visitors can meet artists, watch them work, explore their studios and buy a variety of handmade work directly from artists.
