Four-day youth golf camp starts Monday

Brown County High School will conduct youth golf camp Monday through Thursday, July 17 through 20 at Salt Creek Golf Course.

The camp is open to all students entering the third through ninth grades this fall.

Camp will run from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. daily except for Thursday, which will be 8:30 to 11:15 a.m. to accommodate the camp-ending cookout.

Clubs will be available for those who have none.

Registration is $40 per camper; siblings will be charged $25.

Campers will learn proper grip, set-up, swing basics, techniques for chipping, fundamentals of putting, basic golf rules and golf etiquette and will play selected holes on the final day.

Registration will open at 7:45 a.m. the first day. Make checks to Brown County High School with notation to “golf camp.”

Register for youth soccer by July 14

Registration is under way for Brown County Parks & Recreation youth soccer.

Teams are open to players who are ages 3 to 13 as of July 31.

Practices will begin at Deer Run Park in early August and the first game will be Sunday, Aug. 20.

Player fees are $35 for ages 3 to 4, $40 for ages 5 to 6 and $45 for ages 7 to 13. A $10 discount is available for each additional child.

To avoid a $10 late fee per player, register by Friday, July 14.

Coaches and assistant coaches are needed. A background check for coaches and assistants is required for player safety. Sponsors for $175 per team are also needed.

Adult coed softball registration open

Brown County Parks & Recreation is accepting coed recreational softball registrations for players age 16 and older.

A $25 fee is due with registration by Friday, July 28. No on-site registration is available. GamesĀ at Deer Run Park begin Monday, Aug. 14; games also will be played on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Open gym times offered at YMCA

The Brown County YMCA offers open gym for basketball, volleyball and pickleball for players 16 and older of all ability levels, with informal, friendly games.

Basketball is offered from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for junior and senior high school students; 5 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays andĀ 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for all ages; and 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays for players 18 and older.

Volleyball is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

Pickleball is 6 to 8 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, 7 to 9 a.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The rock wall is open from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays for all ages.

Open gym hours are free for Y members and $3 per non-member.

Sponsors sought for charity golf tournament

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and the Brown County Literacy Coalition will co-host the sixth annual golf tournament Thursday, Sept. 7 at Salt Creek Golf Retreat, 2359 State Road 46 East.

Registration starts at noon and tee time at 1 p.m.

Proceeds will be used to purchase books for Brown County children, including monthly free books given to preschoolers younger than 5.

Sponsorship packages include $150 hole sponsor, $400 hole-in-one sponsor, $500 dinner/snack/beverage package, $750 gold sponsor and $1,000 title sponsor.

Tournament registration can be made for men, women and mixed teams of four, or individuals can register and be assigned to a team. Tournament fees, which include golf, green fees and hors d’oeuvres, are $80 per golfer or $300 per foursome. Register online at indianagolfevents.org/DPIL.

Disc golf league plays Tuesdays

The Brown County Disc Golf Alliance plays regularly in Brown County and new members are welcome.

The group plays Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Deer Run Park or at the Brown County Country Club, alternating months. In July, it’s the country club.

Players of all skill levels are welcome, including those who have never played before. Loaner discs are available.
