The man who police say fatally shot a woman and their infant son before killing himself in Las Vegas had ties to Brown County.

John Henry Lunetta, 40, attended Brown County schools in the early 1990s, according to Brown County Democrat archives and his Facebook page.

Lunetta was an honor roll student at Brown County Junior High School and Brown County High School, where he played football, basketball and tennis. He left Brown County schools in 1994; the Plymouth, Indiana newspaper reported that he graduated from Plymouth High School in 1996.

His father, also named John Lunetta, was an Indiana State Trooper, according to Democrat archives.

Police said John Henry Lunetta, his 11-month-old son, John Dylan Lunetta, the baby’s mother, 34-year-old Karen Michelle Jackson, and the family dog were found dead the evening of July 10 at their shared home in southwest Las Vegas.

Police believe the shootings happened at least a day before the bodies were discovered through a welfare check, the Associated Press reported.

Lunetta was the medical director for the American Red Cross Blood Services in Las Vegas.

His Facebook page says he attended college at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks, Indiana University in Bloomington and Washington University in St. Louis before studying osteopathic medicine and biosciences at Kansas City University. He had worked at Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie before being hired by the Red Cross.

The Associated Press reported that police had previously been called to the home for an argument, but that incident had not turned violent.

John Dylan Lunetta would have turned 1 this week.
