A Brown County man has been charged with a Level 5 felony after police say he punched a child in the cheek and threw him into a wall.

On Aug. 14, police went to a school to interview a child whom a Department of Child Services case worker stated was abused by Michael Allen Uhl, 32, of Spearsville Road.

The child initially denied the abuse and said his injuries happened when he fell off a bunk bed.

Brown County Det. Brian Shrader also spoke with the child’s siblings. One sibling made the initial report of the abuse to a teacher, the affidavit states.

The child who reported the incident also said Uhl told the boy he was going to kill him.

The victim told police what had happened after being reassured it was OK to tell the story, the police report said.

Another relative also reported hearing Uhl yell at the child, the report said.

Shrader and Detective Paul Henderson arrested Uhl at work in Franklin. When asked why he thought police were there, Uhl told them it was “probably” because he smacked the child, the report said.

Uhl admitted he “snapped,” the report said. He said he noticed the child was bleeding from the mouth and “immediately felt bad,” the affidavit states.

He was charged Aug. 15 with domestic battery resulting in bodily injury to a person less than 14 years of age.
