Man faces felony domestic battery charge

A Brown County man has been charged with felony domestic battery after police say he grabbed a woman by her hair in front of young children.

Police went to the home Aug. 16 and were met by the female victim. She told police that Zachary Wray, 35, had stopped by the home to pick up a child and another child wanted to go with him. When the woman told the second child it would have to be another night due to school, the child pushed her.

She grabbed the child’s arm to correct him for pushing her, and that’s when Wray grabbed the woman by the hair from behind, ripped her sunglasses off her head, broke them and threw them on the floor, the probable cause affidavit states.

She told police that Wray then grabbed a bag of ice cream cups she had given the other child to take and threw them through the house before cursing her and leaving.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Clark reported that the events all took place in the living room in front of three children. The woman said the two younger children were crying after Wray left.

Wray was arrested at a home in the 3700 block of Salt Creek Road. He was charged Aug. 17 with domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor, but the charge was elevated to a Level 5 felony since Wray was convicted of domestic battery on the same victim in 2014.
