Man killed after being struck by vehicle in Nashville

A 28-year-old man from Brown County was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Nashville last night, and police are seeking witness statements.

James D. Sturgeon was walking east on State Road 46 East at around 9 p.m. when he crossed from the north side to the south side of the road at the Hawthorne Drive intersection. A woman was walking with him, the police report said.

Sturgeon was struck by an eastbound Volkswagen Jetta, a press release from the Nashville Police Department states. He was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital by ambulance and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

State Road 46 East was closed for four hours while police were investigating the crash.

The driver of the Jetta, Jameson Harris of Columbus, remained at the scene during the investigation, the release said.

The Brown County Sheriff’s Department, Brown County (Nashville) Volunteer Fire Department and Indiana State Police evidence technicians assisted at the scene.
