Police say they discovered marijuana in a Shelbyville man’s car after they stopped him for driving 70 mph in 50 a mph zone on Aug. 13.

Nashville Police Officer Richard A. King stopped the vehicle driven by Todd W. Smith, 28, near the Brown County State Park north gate, according to the probable cause affidavit.

While speaking with Smith, King reported smelling marijuana. When asked about the smell, Smith said he had an eighth of marijuana in the center console under the radio, the affidavit states.

King searched Smith’s vehicle and reported finding a 2.5-inch black cylinder with a screw on top that had a green, leafy substance inside, and a one-hitter pipe next to it.

Smith was charged Aug. 30 with possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor.
