VAN BUREN TWP. — Police are investigating a string of mailbox vandalism incidents in Van Buren Township that occurred early this week.

On Sept. 11 and 12, the Brown County Sheriff’s Department received 13 calls reporting mailbox vandalism, on Becks Grove Road, Susie Ayers Road, Blue Creek Road, Poplar Grove Road, Keith Donaldson Road and State Road 135 South. A stop sign also was damaged in the Elkinsville area on Sept. 11.

The majority of incidents were on Becks Grove Road, with five reported between the 7400 and 8100 blocks.

Brown County Sheriff’s Deputy Andrew Eggebrecht said there is no known connection between these mailbox incidents and the explosive device that was found in a mailbox at a home on Garrity Road Sept. 7.

Several mailboxes on Greasy Creek Road also were damaged this week, but those were from a crash in which the driver left the scene, the sheriff’s department said.
