135 South bridge opens south of Story

STORY — Another State Road 135 bridge has opened — this time, the one on 135 South south of story.

The Indiana Department of Transportation opened the three-span bridge over Hamilton Creek today. It has been closed for 60 days for repairs, including new concrete roadway approaches, new concrete bridge rails replacing older aluminum ones, deck patching and guardrails.

A bit more work remains to be done, but it can be done while traffic is flowing.

“Motorists will feel a slight bump entering and exiting the S.R. 135 Hamilton Creek bridge until a new, 3/8-inch polymeric deck overlay is put in place,” INDOT reported. “At that time, traffic will be restricted to crossing the bridge one-direction-at-a-time — directed by flaggers.”

INDOT officials say the deck overlay should be in place by mid-October.

This is one of the last few projects in a long list INDOT has been completing on State Road 135 this year.
