Youth basketball and cheer registration open

Friday, Sept. 22 is the deadline to register for youth basketball and cheerleading.

Children in pre-K through fourth grades can participate. Games will be on Sundays starting Oct. 15, after fall break.

Fees are $30 per cheerleader, $35 per pre-K player, $40 per first- or second-grade player and $45 per third- or fourth-grade player, with a $10 discount per additional sibling signed up. The fee includes a shirt.

Team sponsors for $175 per team, coaches and assistant coaches are welcome.

Exercise, yoga, personal training in September

Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St., is offering yoga, personal training and high-intensity interval training exercise sessions in September.

Thirty-minute high-intensity interval training “boot camp” sessions are offered at 7 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, or at 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays only. The cost is $10 per session.

Beginner yoga is offered at 12:15 p.m. Wednesdays; or at 4:30 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. The cost is $5 per 30-minute session.

Intermediate yoga is taught at 6 p.m. Tuesdays for $10 per 45-minute session.

Private yoga and personal training rates are $15 for each 30-minute session.

Prepaid group class cards are available.

New sports injury walk-in clinic open

COLUMBUS — Athletes who suffer an injury during their season can visit a new Saturday Morning Sports Injury Clinic at Southern Indiana Orthopedics’ Walk-In Clinic, 940 North Marr Road, Suite C. It is now open from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturdays. Walk-ins are welcome; no appointment is necessary.

SIO can provide care for ankle, back, elbow, foot, hand, hip, knee, neck, shoulder, spine, joint and wrist problems.

Open gym times offered at YMCA

The Brown County YMCA offers open gym for basketball, volleyball and pickleball for players 16 and older of all ability levels, with informal, friendly games.

Basketball is offered from 3 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays for junior and senior high school students; 5 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays and 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays for all ages; and 7:30 to 10 p.m. Mondays for players 18 and older.

Volleyball is offered from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays.

Pickleball is 6 to 8 a.m. Mondays through Fridays, 7 to 9 a.m. Saturdays, and 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The rock wall is open from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursdays for all ages.

Open gym hours are free for Y members and $3 per non-member.

Workshop on goals offered in October

Simply Fitness yoga teacher Becky Mann will help participants to “set intentions, create visions and begin the journey to goals” during a vision board workshop.

It will take place from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at Simply Fitness, 59 E. Main St., second floor. A $25 fee includes supplies.

Disc golf league plays every Tuesday

The Brown County Disc Golf Alliance plays regularly in Brown County and new members are welcome.

The group plays Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. at Deer Run Park or at the Brown County Country Club, alternating months. In September, it’s the club.

Players of all skill levels are welcome, including those who have never played before. Loaner discs are available.
