Stephen Thomas Fittz, 79, of Nashville, Indiana, passed away at Brown County Health and Living.

He was born Sept. 25, 1937 in Indianapolis, son of the late Grace (Jenner) Fittz and Thomas Fittz. Steve graduated from Howe High School in Indianapolis, attended Purdue and Indiana University, and graduated from Purdue with a bachelor’s degree.

Steve retired from General Motors and Electronic Data Systems as a systems analyst after 32 years.

He served in the Air Force Reserve for six years and was activated during the Berlin Crisis.

Steve loved his Brown County and was an active member of the Brown County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Friends of T.C. Steele, and St. David’s Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry and singing in the choir.

Steve is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sandra (Bell) Fittz; his sons, Michael Fittz of Nashville, David Fittz of New Carlisle, Ohio, and Joseph Fittz of Columbus, Ohio; his sister, Barbara (husband, Larry) Carden of Sewanee, Tennessee; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Steve was preceded in death by a sister, Jacqueline Pace; daughter-in-law, Therese Fittz; and grandson, Joshua Fittz.

Memorial services to celebrate his life will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Bean Blossom.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in memory of Stephen Fittz be made to the Brown County Community Foundation, P.O. Box 191, Nashville, IN 47448; or to the Alzheimers Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090.
