Police in Brown County are searching for an inmate on work release who failed to show up for work yesterday morning.

George McBride, 45, of Bloomington, was serving a 15-year sentence for dealing methamphetamine. He has a history of convictions in seven counties, including escape or failure to return to lawful detention in 2008, according to online court documents.

Sheriff Scott Southerland said this morning that Brown County jail staff received a phone call at around 8 a.m. Tuesday from McBride’s employer, saying that he didn’t show up for work.

McBride did have access to a vehicle, Southerland said. Inmates who have cars are required to drive directly to and from work without making stops unless they have permission from Community Corrections to go to an appointment.

Southerland said he didn’t know where McBride may be heading.

McBride was charged in April 2013 in Brown County with dealing methamphetamine, a Class B felony; possession of methamphetamine, a Class D felony; and possession of chemical reagents or precursors with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, a Class D felony.

He pleaded guilty in March 2015 to dealing methamphetamine and the other counts were dismissed. He was sentenced to 15 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections/Brown County Jail and Brown County Community Corrections.

Court records say that he was going to be eligible for work release for the last four years of his sentence, but a “judicial override” was ordered, according to online court documents.

Defense attorney Thomas Barr petitioned to modify McBride’s sentence in June, and that modification was granted in August. Brown Circuit Court suspended 808 days of the sentence and placed him on work release for four years, according to online court documents.

After that, McBride was to be placed on one year of probation consecutive to another term of probation in Grant County, court documents say.

Since 1991, McBride has been charged with felonies in Greene, Delaware, Monroe, Huntington, Grant and Madison counties, according to Indiana Department of Corrections offender data.

His charges include forgery/counterfeiting/application fraud, theft/receiving stolen property, burglary and resisting law enforcement.

In August 2008, he was charged with failure to return to lawful detention/escape in Madison County.

An arrest warrant was filed Sept. 27, along with a petition to revoke his work release privileges.

Southerland said if anyone sees McBride, they should call 911.
